Necessary AND convenientMay 30, 2008
By Alesia You just can't put wet-bladed skates into your bag, so bring a towel always or, better, get some skateguards like these to protect the bladees from the inevitable jostling they get in your bag.
While these guards will soak up some of the water, PLEASE do your skates a favor & wipe down the blades nice & dry with these (or a towel!) first, because your blades probably aren't stainless (in which case they'll rust in short order). Also, unlike hard plastic skateguards, these terrycloth models won't do much to protect your blades when you're walking around on them and you should NEVER walk on anything but the rubber floor of an ice rink in these: You'll probably cut through the guards and and will certainly damage your blades.
Perfect Skate GuardsFeb 05, 2009

It is difficult to find plain black skate guards and I was thrilled to find these for my husband's hockey skates. They're perfect.

These just don't hold up wellMar 15, 2010
By J. P. Kelly As the title says, these just don't hold up well. These may be good just to cover your blades in your bag, but they do not do well for walking in. They get really dirty and will eventually get cut up and damaged. We went back to the old hard plastic ones and are happy again.
